Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 17, 2026

Your privacy matters to us. Unbrella is designed to deliver forecasts, alerts, widgets, and Apple Watch features without requiring an account or an advertising business model.

1. Information We Collect

We aim to collect and keep only the information needed to run the app, process subscriptions, and understand how the product is working.

Location, Forecast, and Alert Data

Unbrella can use your device location when you grant permission, or locations you search for and save manually, to fetch weather forecasts, air-quality readings, radar, and severe weather alerts. Depending on the feature you use, coordinates or location-related requests may be processed by Apple WeatherKit, Apple location services and MapKit, the National Weather Service, Open-Meteo, and RainViewer.

We do not run our own server-side account system for normal app use, and we do not maintain a server-side location history for the app. However, the app does store location-related information on your device so it can remember saved locations, recent locations, the selected location, cached weather, and your last known coordinates for background refresh features.

On-Device Storage

Unbrella stores app data locally on your device using Apple's local storage mechanisms, including UserDefaults and App Group storage used by widgets and Apple Watch features. This local storage can include settings, saved and recent locations, the currently selected location, cached location names, cached weather data, last known coordinates, notification preferences and state, background refresh preferences, widget presentation settings, and Apple Watch complication settings.

Widgets, Apple Watch, and Weather Sharing

To support widgets, complications, and the Apple Watch app, Unbrella shares weather summaries and related settings locally between app components using an App Group and Apple's watch connectivity framework. This data stays on your devices within Apple's app sandboxing model.

The app also lets you generate weather share images on device. You can choose whether the shared image shows or hides the location before you send it through the system share sheet.

App Analytics

Unbrella uses TelemetryDeck for app analytics. This helps us understand things like app launches, paywall views, subscription events, settings changes, weather refreshes, sharing flows, and update engagement. The app's analytics setting is enabled by default today, and you can turn it off in the app's settings at any time.

The app is designed not to send precise location names, coordinates, or manual search text as analytics events. We do not use app analytics to build advertising profiles.

Website Analytics and Browser Storage

The Unbrella website uses Umami and Google Analytics to understand traffic and improve the marketing site. These services may receive information such as page views, browser details, approximate region, referrer data, and IP address as part of normal web requests. Google Analytics may also use analytics cookies according to Google's own configuration and policies.

The website also stores a banner-dismissal preference in your browser's local storage so the notice does not reappear every time you visit.

2. Notifications and Permissions

Unbrella can request notification permission for local notifications such as rain alerts, severe weather alerts, daily summaries, Fresh Air Notice notifications, and major update notifications.

The app requests location access while in use for local weather features. It requests Always location only if you choose to enable background severe weather alerts. If you do not enable that feature, the app does not need Always location access to function normally.

3. Third-Party Services

To provide forecasts, alerts, subscriptions, analytics, and website measurement, Unbrella interacts with the following third-party services:

4. Subscriptions and Payments

Paid subscriptions are billed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive your full payment-card information. Inside the app, RevenueCat helps us load subscription offerings, restore purchases, and determine whether premium access is active for the current App Store account.

5. Data Retention

App data that Unbrella stores locally generally remains on your device until you change it, remove it, or delete the app. Shared widget and Apple Watch data also remains on your device or paired devices until it is replaced or removed.

We do not maintain app user accounts for normal use. Third-party providers such as TelemetryDeck, RevenueCat, Apple, Umami, and Google Analytics may retain data they receive under their own policies and retention practices.

6. Advertising

Unbrella does not show ads in the app, and we do not sell your data to advertisers.

7. Children's Privacy

Our Service does not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
